A number of businesses don’t realize they are in the flood zone until they need a load or a mortgage. During the loan application process the lender often comes back and says that you need flood insurance. While the map may say you are in a flood zone, you have the option to obtain an elevation certificate that may show that you are actually at a higher elevation then applying the standard zone from the map provided for your area. Keep in mind that you do run the chance that the elevation certificate might not show you are at a higher elevation. Although if you have some confidence in your location and know the flood history it may be worth it!
